Today was another relatively short walking day (13 miles) so we decided to spend the morning in Burgos touring the interior of the Catedrale de Santa Maria, one of Spain's most beautiful and largest of cathedrals (only the Giralda in Sevilla is bigger). As such, Becky, Jerry and I didn't leave Burgos until @ 11:15 am.
Rich made a quick tour of the cathedral and then took a taxi to the town of Tarjados, @ 6.5 miles out from our day's destination of Hornillos del Camino. This is his first day back walking the Camino and, if his foot doesn't hurt after today's walk, he'll join us for the full 12.6 mile trek tomorrow. He thought he would be fairly slow so wanted to get a head start, thinking we would catch up with him (which we never did).
We saw very few pilgrims on the road today, probably because we left at such a late hour. It was a fairly easy walk with just a short hill climb to the top of a meseta, a relative wilderness after the bustling city of Burgos. The guidebook had described the steep descent from the meseta as a "mule killer" which is another reason Rich wanted a little extra time negotiating the terrain. We arrived in Hornillos @ 4:15 pm, a good 2 hours later than Rich. Guess he didn't walk as slow as he thought he would!
We are now 21 stages, 22 days and 296 miles from Santiago. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
Buen Camino

Guess the steep descent from the meseta isn't a "mule killer" after all
