Stage 17: Carrión de los Condes to Caldadilla de la Cueza

September 9, 2018

Yay!!! We are now at the halfway point and are doing a happy dance!! We've walked 244 miles out of the 488 total miles from where we started in St. Jean and have completed 17 of the 34 stages we'll be walking.

We had a short day today and only covered 10.6 miles. They were very boring miles, however, and it felt like the flat and featureless landscape went on forever. The only thing that broke up the monotony was a small food truck @ 4.5 miles from Caldadilla, where we stopped for coffee and orange juice (and Rich had a grilled hot dog).

Caldadilla is a VERY small town with 2 albergues (hostels) and the one pension where we're staying. From what I can see, there are 2 bars/cafes and 1 church in town. Not much to do, but it's a nice place to just relax. The high point of our day was dinner this evening where we were served communal style. This is a family-run establishment and everyone is so friendly. Such a contrast to the 4-star hotel where we stayed last night, where the surroundings were elegant, but the treatment we received at the front desk and in the dining room was very cold. Tonight Becky and I got hugs and kisses (European style) from our waiter as we left the dining room!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we continue our journey. Only 17 more stages, 18 more days and 244 more miles to Santiago!

The only thing that keeps this landscape from being totally boring
is Becky's smiling face
